DataFest is a data analysis competition where teams of up to five undergraduates have a weekend to attack a large and complex dataset. Your job is to find and communicate insights into these data. The teams that impress the judges will win prizes as well as glory. Everyone else will have a great experience, lots of food, and fun!
All Princeton undergrads are welcome to join the competition on Mar. 28-30. Registration is free.

Professor Ramon van Handel has been selected to receive the 2012 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. ORFE congratulates Professor van Handel on this outstanding accomplishment. This award is the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers.

Congratulations to Pr. Jianqing Fan for being the first recipient of the Pao-Lu Hsu Prize, together with Xiao-Li Meng (Harvard) and Bin Yu (UC Berkeley).

The Pao-Lu Hsu Prize is presented every three years by the International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA), to an individual under the age of 50, who makes influential and fundamental contributions to any field of statistics and probability.

This award recognizes their excellent scholarly accomplishments in statistical research as well as outstanding contributions to the development of sound statistics in Chinese communities. An award announcement was made at the Members meeting during JSM in San Diego earlier this month. An official award ceremony with special presentations by the award recipients will be held at the ICSA International Conference in Hong Kong, December 20-23, 2013.

Marc Hallin, Visiting Professor at the Statlab, has received a prestigious Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt foundation. This award is granted in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future. We are pleased to announce the 3rd Princeton Day of Statistics. The third edition of this bi-annual event will take place on Friday, October 19, 2012 .
This edition will take place on Princeton campus and is by invitation only. This year, 8 speakers will deliver talks on the most recent advances in statistics:
