Prof. Massey and his former student Prof. Hampshire *07 give keynotes at INFORMS Annual Meeting

Nov. 16, 2021

This year, ORFE Edwin S. Wilsey Professor William A. Massey ‘77 was a keynote speaker at the flagship conference for the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the 2021 INFORMS Annual Meeting. His talk was titled “A Dynamic Queueing Road Map from Communication Systems to Resource Sharing Services”. Another highlight of this INFORMS meeting was a fellow keynote speaker, ORFE alumnus Professor Robert C. Hampshire *07, who is currently the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology and chief science officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). His Ph.D. dissertation was advised by Dr. Massey. This keynote honor coincides with Professor Massey ’77 celebrating his 20th anniversary as a Princeton University faculty member. He is both the first Black Princeton undergraduate to become a full professor at Princeton as well as the first Black mathematician to receive tenure at an Ivy League University. Professor Massey received his A.B. degree from Princeton University in 1977 and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1981. After leaving Stanford, Dr. Massey began a twenty-year research career at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey before joining the faculty of the Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering in 2001.
