Nonparametric methods for detecting change in Multitemporal SAR/PolSAR Satellite Data

Event Description

We propose nonparametric statistical procedures to analyse multitemporal SAR/PolSAR satellite images. The aim is two-fold. We seek parsimony in data representation as well as efficient change detection. For these, wavelets and geostatistical analyses are applied to the images. Following this representation, the dimension of the underlying generating process is estimated (Fonseca and Pinheiro, 2019), and a set of multivariate characteristics is extracted. Change-points are then detected via wavelet-based mixture estimators (Montoril et al., 2019). We exemplify the procedures in a series of 87 SAR images from the Rainforest region on the border of Brazil and the French Guiana.

Biography: Aluisio Pinheiro was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He holds a BS and MS in Statistics from Brazilian universities and a PhD in Statistics from UNC at Chapel Hill in 1997. He has been a faculty member at the University of Campinas, Brazil, since then. His research is focused on nonparametric methods in statistics and their potential applications to time series, images, high-dimensional and functional data.
