About ORFE
Welcome to the Department of Operations Research & Financial Engineering, part of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton University. ORFE is engineering for business, commerce, and industry.
Our students are innovators and entrepreneurs. They acquire the skills to become leaders in finance, information technology, management consulting, operations planning and insurance. Our researchers develop tools used to make better decisions, improve performance of complex systems, and manage resources efficiently.
The Department was formed in 1999 and traces a distinguished history to activities at Princeton between 1930 and 1960.
Leung appointed as Assistant Prof. at Johns Hopkins
Congratulations to Tim Leung, who, at the completion of his Ph.D. program, is set to join the faculty as Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics & Statistics, part of the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
"Tim received his Bachelor's degree magna cum laude at Cornell, majoring in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering. His research interests are in Financial Mathematics, especially in the valuation of employee stock options (ESOs) and credit derivatives. His work on ESO valuation has been featured in the general press, and his papers are available on his current website." (Johns Hopkins)
ORFE Building named for Sherrerd '52
"The University announced Monday that the new operations research and financial engineering (ORFE) building will be dedicated to the late Jay Sherrerd ’52, formerly a trustee of the University and a director of the Princeton Investment Company (PRINCO). ... 'There’s no one I can think of in the last 40 years who has been as dedicated and loyal to the University as Jay Sherrerd,' President Tilghman said in an interview Monday afternoon." Highlights of Construction Projects include ORFE
News at Princeton is currently featuring a story highlighting the University's summer construction projects. Among the various projects is the new engineering building that will house the ORFE department. According to the overview provided by the Office of Design and Construction, the new building will have "interior finishing and landscape work ... completed in August in time for the opening."
