Applications

Students and faculty in Operations Research and Financial Engineering work in a variety of different application areas: financial management and risk analysis, logistics and supply chain management, the optimal design of engineered systems, security pricing, signal and image processing, and traveler information and decision support.

Methodologies

What all students and researchers in ORFE have in common is a solid foundation in analytic methods and information technology. This includes probability and stochastic processes, numerical optimization, statistics, and computational mathematics.

Quality

Princeton's faculty and students are among the best in the world. Current members of the faculty have written some of the most important articles and books in the field. In recognition of this, they have been and/or are on the editorial boards of almost all of the major journals in the field. Graduates of the Ph.D. program have taken positions at a number of major universities, work in various research organizations, and work in industry. Graduates of the B.S.E., M.S.E and M.E. programs work in a variety of consulting firms, financial institutions, and engineering firms. Most are in leadership roles; all are having an enormous impact.

About ORFE
Welcome to the Department of Operations Research & Financial Engineering, part of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton University. ORFE is engineering for business, commerce, and industry.
Our students are innovators and entrepreneurs. They acquire the skills to become leaders in finance, information technology, management consulting, insurance, and operations planning. Our researchers develop the tools used to make better decisions, improve the performance of complex systems, and manage resources efficiently.
The Department was formed in 1999 and traces a distinguished history to activities at Princeton between 1930 and 1960.
